Psalm 23:2–3
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.
3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.

Reflection
Psalm 23 describes the LORD’s care with the patient work of a shepherd. He provides rest, leads to quiet water, restores the soul, and guides in righteousness. These gifts belong together: His care refreshes a person and gives direction for the next step. The psalm goes on to speak of a dark valley and the presence of enemies. Its confidence rests in the Shepherd’s presence through those places. The quiet waters are part of a larger picture of God’s faithful care.
Bring the weariness of your day to the Father in prayer. You do not have to make your concerns sound smaller before naming them. Read the psalm slowly, and notice both the rest God gives and the paths in which He leads. If there is a faithful step before you, take it without trying to solve everything at once. Receive ordinary help with gratitude, and offer that same patient attention to someone who is tired. Let this prayer accompany you into the evening.
