1 John 3:1

1 Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

Reflection

John pauses to marvel at the Father's love: believers are called God's children, and that belonging is real. Their identity does not depend on being understood or admired by the world. The next verses join this present gift to a future hope in Christ, and that hope calls His people toward purity. The Father's love gives us a place to stand while we learn to live faithfully.

Before the day closes, make room for one act of love that asks for no applause. Share a meal, listen without rushing, or help someone whose need you can meet. Later in this chapter, John points to Jesus' self-giving love and calls believers to love in action and truth. Read all of 1 John 3. Receive its assurance of belonging, and let that assurance move your care for another person beyond words.
