2 Corinthians 1:3–4

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,

4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

Reflection

Paul blesses the Father of compassion while writing openly about suffering. Later in this chapter, he describes a burden so heavy that he despaired of life. His praise comes from within hardship. The comfort he receives through Christ also turns him toward other people who are hurting. This passage invites us to bring our troubles honestly to God and to see His care as something we can share. We do not need to pretend that pain is small in order to give thanks for His mercy.

As this day ends, name one burden before the Father in prayer. Ask for comfort and patient endurance, and read the chapter slowly enough to hear Paul's honesty as well as his hope. Then think of someone who needs a little company in a difficult season. A quiet visit, a listening ear, or a simple prayer together can be a faithful response. Offer care without rushing them toward an explanation or a cheerful ending.
