Luke 15:20
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the distance, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.

Reflection
Jesus tells this parable after religious leaders complain that He welcomes sinners. The younger son has wasted his inheritance and is returning to confess his sin. Before he can deliver his speech, his father runs to meet him with compassion. The story invites us to consider the Father's welcome toward those who repent. Our failures need to be named honestly, and this picture gives us reason to turn toward God rather than hide.
Take a quiet moment tonight to tell God the truth about where you have wandered. Ask for His mercy and for help to take the next faithful step. Read the whole chapter, including the older brother's anger and the father's appeal to him. Compassion also challenges the resentment that can grow when someone else receives forgiveness. Consider one person whose return or fresh start you find hard to welcome. Pray for them, and look for a small way to respond with patience and kindness.
